Bishops’ rule causes cancellation of Pope John Pinnacle Awards event

Pope John XXIII High School has had to cancel its largest and most prestigious fund-raising program of the year because the two congressmen, who were to be honored at the affair, support public positions that in the eyes of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops are “inconsistent with church doctrine”.

The cancellation of the Pinnacle Awards program comes as a shock to the faculty and supporters of the school, especially since it comes just a week before the May 2, 2012 event.

Congressmen Edward Markey and Michael Capuano were slated to receive recognition for their public service and good works “on behalf of the community and many under-served populations”.

However, when it was brought to the attention of school officials that the Conference of Bishops has a rule that precludes honoring “individuals whose public positions are inconsistent with church doctrine”, Pope John principal Kay Donovan had no choice but pull the plug on the local fund-raising program.

The voting records of the two congressmen “in some aspects are contrary to Catholic teachings”, Ms. Donovan said in letters being sent to the fund-raising event’s sponsors.

Ms. Donovan explained that the policies and protocols of the bishops unfortunately “had not been consulted prior to the initial scheduling of this year’s Pinnacle Awards”.

The sponsors were thanked by Ms. Donovan for their support of Pope John XXIII High School and for their realization that “a Catholic education is the best investment we can make in a child’s future”.

She also is telling sponsors that “since we will not be moving forward with the event, I wish to offer you the opportunity of having your generous donation to the school returned”.

Ms. Donovan has disclosed that the third scheduled Pinnacle Award recipient, Daniel Doherty, will be honored at a dinner in the near future for his “unparalleled record of hard work and volunteerism for Pope John”.

I am happy to say I had a hand in stopping these awards to these pro death politicians.

    • Clover1111

Why stop with them? Shouldn’t it be every single active and defeated politician who hoisted Obamacare on us? People will be mandated to pay $1 a month for abortion coverage like it or not and so on…………

    • bluevanda

Great! Keep up the good work!

Thank you for your good work Maureen T Strong. God’s blessings to you!

  • Think about it

So the school loses about a hundred thousand dollars of funding because the men who helped make Everett what it is today believe that mothers deserve a right to choose what to do with their own bodies… Besides the fact that this is extortion, its morally wrong to deny these men recognition from the place that they have helped shape into a well established teaching facility. You and the catholic church should be ashamed that this happened at all, rather than gloating that you had a part in it.

    • bluevanda

No, it’s because they expect the church to pay for what mothers want to do with their own bodies that goes against church doctrine. Don’t like their doctrine then find another church that doesn’t care about funding women to have abortions, contraception devices, day after pills and the like. It’s about time principles take priority over money!

The right of what women do with their own bodies? What about the body of the innocent child? Also the Church has every right to stand up for and defend the historic faith. Dont like it? To bad. Christians need to stop cowaring and stand up and fight for the historic faith of the Church. To many Saints have died in the past defendning our ability to worship and believe the Faith without fear of being persecuted. If we do not fight back against God haters they will soon be not only hating us as they do now but persecuting us openly as well.

“A woman has a rght over her own body,” is a constantly used mantra of the death culture. But what of the parts of her body that were designed not for her use, but for the use of another? The womb designed for anyone’s use is the womb of the mother of that person. A woman’s womb is obviously designed, not for her use, but for that of a developing child.

Catholic Church’s rules. Bishop’s rules. If you don’t like it get out of the Catholic Church or start your own private school. I’m am still amazed that so many democrate politicians have still not yet been excommunicated from the Catholic Church. I keep wondering when the Bishops are going to man up.

    • diadhuit

problem is . . . mothers that commit abortion are not choosing what they do with THEIR BODIES, but rather are choosing to destroy SOMEONE ELSE’S BODY.
To destroy a new genetically unique individual.
      Yup, that’s a “choice”.
Let me guess, are you a member of a teachers union? Just a guess.

No, this is what Peter would have said. When Simon Magus tried to buy an ordination, Peter told him, “May your money perish with you.” It would have been the right decision even if the school lost a hundred million dollars in promised funding.

I imagine the congressmen’s voting record has something to do with abortion(baby killing). The article is disingenuous not to report their record or the doctrine. The editor and author of the article need to go back to journalism school. A truth not told is a lie.

why dont you guys focus on convictions instead of arrest because the police arrest whoever they want why put peoples names on this website when we live in a country that believes in inocent until proven guilty
