Not even the Great Blizzard of 2013 could stop Councillor Wayne Matewsky from hosting his senior breakfast at the Village Co-Op, 66 Main Street, on Saturday morning, February 9. With over 24” of snow on the ground and the storm still in full force, Councillor Matewsky delivered a full breakfast to more than 50 seniors. Governor Patrick mandated a driving ban effective Friday evening throughout the Commonwealth for all traffic excluding public safety and snow removal vehicles.
Saturday morning Wayne was fortunate enough to flag down a snow plow driver on the corner of Revere Beach Parkway and Lewis Street. Once in the truck, Wayne drove with the plow truck driver to pick up his mother, Marion, on Summer Street. Wayne and his mother then went to the Village Co-Op and arrived on time for the event.
Wayne’s mother captivated the residents with stories of her days as the head hostess at the Chateau De Ville Dinner Theater in Saugus and the celebrities she met. A few of the stars Marion hosted at the Chateau were Joan Crawford, Al Martino, Yule Brenner, and Van Johnson.
The seniors thoroughly enjoyed their breakfast while many reminisced about another great blizzard, that of 1978.
The Matewsky Committee is planning to visit Glendale Towers, the Whitter Drive Complex, and the Whitney Lorenti House in the upcoming weeks.
